The Benelux market for textile industry has gone through major changes over the last decades. Due to the fierce competition from low-wage countries and the strict Dutch legislation with regard to work and the environment, Dutch manufacturers are very different from the large bulk producers. Dutch manufacturers primarily focus on high technology applications. The result of this is a new market, with a number of players who have specialised in the area of high-quality textile laminates for use in various technical applications, for example, in the medical world, or in technical clothing materials (protective clothing for the army and the fire brigade, among others). The (bonded) complexes must comply with the applicable standards with regard to biocompatibility, durability, water-repellence and/or fire safety.
